Vybz Kartel has been Jamaica’s most inspiring and most hated personality for most of the past decade. He has released 11 albums and multiple number one hits. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Cartel had a passion for music since he was around age five. He would often ask his father if he could twist the cap off the television the see the artist behind the glass.

Having two uncles in the music business helped Kartel start his career. He started making some of his own beats and released his first single ”Love Fat Women” at the age of 15.

Early in the year 2011, Vybz Kartel got into trouble with the law. He was tried for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. The dispute started when Williams stole a gun from Kartel.  Kartel and three of his acquaintances lured Williams to Kartel’s house and  beat him to death.

“Tween me an u a chop we chop up the bwoy Lizard fine fine and dash him way inuh. As long as u live dem can never find him.” Essentially, this means that they chopped up William’s body so fine that nobody will ever find him. “Yeah man a mince meat dat” – he is a mince meat or in very, very fine pieces. These are recorded text messages, and as more and more time passes, Jamaican police believe that they are true because the body of Clive Williams has still not been found. It has been at least three years since his death/disappearance.

Vybz Kartel is doing life in prison.
