The Newfield Boys Varsity Basketball team has just kept these wins coming! Our Newfield Trojans brought the win of the Section 4 Class C Title. At the Floyd L. Maine’s Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY on Saturday March 7th the boys’ varsity basketball team played Watkins Glen. “It was really cool to play in the Arena; our team has never had the chance to play in a place that big before, Devin Cooper number 14 of the varsity team, said. “Our strategy was to attack the front rim.”

The boys knew they had to pull it together to get this win and that’s exactly what they did. Using man-to-man defense the Trojans came together and scored throughout the final quarter. Cooper scored 12 points in the first three minutes and thirty-six seconds, Brain Barrett added six points, and following Barrett’s six points Cole Banfield made a 3-pointer with three minutes and 51 seconds left. Banfield’s single shot and Barrett’s 3-pointer put the Trojans farther into the lead scoring. While the Trojans continued to make single shots, Barrett made two free throws in the last fourteen seconds which lead the Trojans to their victory!

This was a big win for our Newfield Trojans because our varsity team has not won the Section 4 Class C title since the basketball season in 2005. Our varsity team will continued their season on March 14, at Oneonta State against Waterville, but lost the bid for states.
