Was Luis Suárez’s goal what lifts Barcelona against Madrid?
April 14, 2015
Last Sunday, Barcelona and Real Madrid clashed in the epic Clásico with a victory for Barcelona with a very tight score of 2-1, with goals of the Uruguayan player Luis Suarez and the French Jérémy Mathieu for Barcelona and one from Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid. Bold teams play for the top of the Spain tournament “La Liga.” With the win Barcelona is up with four points over the Real Madrid, with 10 games more in the season.
At the start of the game, one thing was clear, that Real Madrid had control over a Barcelona with few opportunities of a goal. Ronaldo heated the start of the game. With a perfect pass from Karim Benzema, Ronaldo got a fantastic kick, hitting the post on a dangerous angle.
Barcelona came back, with a defensive mistake by the Real Madrid defenders Dani Carbajal and Sergio Ramos allowing Mathieu score the first Goal for Barcelona and his first goal in La Liga.
There was another chance for Barcelona, but this time Neymar Junior missed alone in front of the goal. It was Madrid time to get an equalizer. This time Luka Modric found Benzema, who set up Ronaldo, who this time didn’t missed and with an incredible back-heel scored for Real Madrid.
The end of the first half was basically one side, Real Madrid, attacking with everything and Barcelona’s defense didn’t give easy chances. In the minute 39, Gareth Bale scored a goal that was ruled offside. The pressure on Barcelona made Claudio Bravo, his goalkeeper, give a long distance ball to Ronaldo who with a long distance strike almost scored. Again a chance for Gareth Bale who shot just wide, after a Barcelona’s defensive mistake to clear a corner kick.
The second half was again for the Real Madrid keeping high pressure on Barcelona giving more chances of counter balls and fast breaks. That was the moment for Suarez’s opportunity. With a loft long pass from Dani Alves, Suarez control and run all the half of the field finally kicking into the opposite corner of the net scoring over Casillas goal.
At that point, we could see Madrid with a lot of mistakes trying hopelessly for a goal until the finish of the game. The participation from Modric in the first half was absolutely important with a very good domain in middle field and brilliant passes. He just recovered from an injury which put the player for a couple of months out of the field. However the second half he ran out of steam and was replaced.
An aspect of discussion on the game was the participation of Luis Suárez’s who was having a bad performance in the star of the La Liga but in the last games was having decisive participation. Suarez is the man that Barcelona was looking for, a main striker.
The comments of the Barcelona coach about Suárez’s goal at the end of the match were: “within the reach of only a few.” He said, “That is why we paid what we paid for Suárez.“ His goal not only made sure Barcelona’s win also helps to deflate Madrid as a team. As Modric at the end of the match said, “After the second goal, we weren’t a team anymore.”
The comment from the Madrid’s coach was that “For one hour, we played better,” “but in the final 30 minutes, the counterattacking of Barca was frightening.”
Enrique, Barcelona’s coach, said that the win wasn’t decisive for the league race, and he also admits that Madrid’s was superior to Barcelona in every move of the game.
