On Oct. 10, 2018 at approximately 1:40 p.m. Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida Panhandle and traveled into Georgia. Unfortunately, an 11-year-old girl by the name of Sarah Radney was visiting her grandparents in Southwestern Georgia. Her father Mr. Radney wasn’t too sure about his daughter Sarah going to visit her grandparents because the whole family was aware of the hurricane.

Sarah’s grandfather assured Sarah’s father that their modular home would be able to sustain the winds that were caused by Hurricane Michael. Well for the most part it did, a carport was lifted by the winds and it went directly through the roof where Sarah and her grandmother were sitting. Sarah sustained a serious head injury; her grandmother had a punctured lung and broken ribs. Not short after Sarah was hit, she was unconscious and unable to breathe. They informed her dad but only gave him few details.

Unfortunately, due to fallen trees and power lines the emergency responders couldn’t reach the home until the next day at noon. By the time the emergency responders arrived Sarah’s grandfather relayed the message to Mr. Radney that Sarah had passed away.

Sarah’s father and step mom both are hurt but are reminiscing on the amazing times they shared with her. “She was so beautiful, and she smiled so much that day, she lit up everything,” Amber Radney said. No one is more devastated than Sarah’s father, Roy Radney. He said: “She brightened my world. She was 11 years old and liked to play like she was 5.”  Sarah was only 11 years old and had such a long life in front of her; this freak accident was very unfortunate.
